THE last two unbeaten records in the Bury Snooker League came to an end this week.

In the A Section Tottington D visited Central A on the back of a seven-week winning streak but Central got off to the perfect start with Dave Chapman compiling an excellent break of 61 and taking the opener 109-36.

Central took three more frames to take the match 6-2, although Tottington remain top at the halfway point.

Fishpool gained ground after defeating Buchanan’s 7-2.

The game was still there for the taking for both sides after four frames but then Fishpool pressed on taking the last two, including Gaz Mcintosh securing the final frame 70-23.

Last year’s champions Elton Lib D won at home to Central E.

Paul Gill (69-25) and Harry Boswell (87-33) started the rout while Central took the last as consolation with a good performance from Paul Bennett (78-23).

Walmersley B continue to climb up the league but were pushed all the way by Salisbury A.

Both teams took three frames but the biggest win on the night belonged to Walmersley’s Tony Burns, taking the fourth frame 82-34 which was key to Walmersley securing the aggregate and a 5-3 win.

In the B Section, Central D lost their unbeaten record as they succumbed to Elton Lib A.

Phil Brierley set the tone for Elton with a 38 break as he took the opener 85-63.

Central bounced back to take frames two and three, but Elton sealed the win taking the last three frames, including Carl Naisbitt (62-36) and Mick Walton in the last frame (91-51) to hand them a 6-2 win.

At the halfway point Central D lead the section by 11 points.

Whitefield BC took advantage of the leaders' slip at St Mary’s A.

Whitefield took the first four frames, Ken Higgins getting out of an impossible snooker off three cushions in the third, while Anthony Rukin produced the highest break of the week with a fine 62, taking his frame (104-66) as Whitefield went on to win the match 8-1.

Central B edged past Stanley 6-3 thanks to Liam Franklin winning the fifth (77-24).

Elton Lib C lost ground at the top after a 6-2 defeat at Central C with Ian Sullivan and Derek Mercer doing the damage in the last two frames, despite Alan Brookes earlier taking his frame (109-37) for Elton.

In the C Section, Walshaw B recorded their first win of the season against Seedfield BC.

It was not looking good after three frames as Walshaw fell 46 behind on aggregate.

They came back to take the final three frames with Lee Armstrong securing a 6-2 triumph in the final frame with a 25 clearance to take the frame (71-47).

At the top of the table, Walshaw A visited third-placed Central F.

Walshaw will rue their luck but it was one-way traffic from frame one as Tony Baker won 92-62 and Kevin Moreton put the match beyond doubt in the fifth (98-62), while Walshaw’s sole success was Matt Gilmore who took the frame after requiring two snookers.

A 7-1 win for Central F puts them top, while Walshaw suffered their first defeat.

Central are joined at the top by Salisbury C thanks to a 6-2 win against Savanna’s.

Gary Spanner got them off the a good start, taking the first frame (81-29).

Salisbury went on to win a further three frames to make it six straight wins.

Tottington B had the most comprehensive win of the week as they won 7-1, taking the aggregate by 196 points thanks to big wins from Mick Middleton (70-22), Chris Murray (70-16) and Tony Wilcox (92-43).

St Mary’s B visited Huntley B and Les Lee got them off to the perfect start, taking the first (86-26).

Simon Bowkett followed up in the second (94-55).

Huntley had to wait until the last frame for their sole success, thanks to Colin Baggott, as St Mary’s strolled to an 8-1 win.
