BURY sprint starlet Hannah Kelly will link up with the country’s top young talent in Loughborough this weekend for a relay camp.

The 17-year-old athlete's selection for the elite group is a further sign she is one of the most highly-rated young sprinters in the country.

The camp pulls together all the sprinters UK Athletics consider may be involved in major championship relay teams in the near future.

Despite her young age Kelly has made her mark on the senior circuit during a hugely successful winter season in which she was invited to compete in the British Indoor Senior Championships, which doubled as the qualifiers for the World Indoor Championships.

She performed impressively in reaching the 200m semi-final where she finished fifth.

She also won a silver medal in the English Under-20s Indoor Championships 200m, where she set a new personal best time of 24.22secs.

And she picked up two more silvers in the Northern Indoor U20 Championships 60m and 200m.

The Holy Cross College student and her coach at Bolton United Harriers, Les Hall, have set a series of targets for the summer outdoor season which, if she hits them, will see her progress further towards becoming one of the top female sprinters in the country.

The targets include winning a medal at the Northern championships in June over 100m and 200m, winning a medal at the English U20 championships in June over 200m, and gaining selection for the World Junior championships in either the 200m or relay – the qualifying standard is 23.70secs for 200m.

Should she not be selected for the World Juniors she will target a medal at the English Schools national championships in July over 200m.

Her individual event targets are 11.90secs for 100m, 23.70secs for 200m, and 56secs for 400m.

In the immediate future she will be looking to impress at this weekend's relay camp which is specifically aimed at athletes who may be selected for this year’s IAAF World Junior championships in Tampere, Finland in July.
