BOXERS from Bury's GFC Muay Thai gym had a successful trip to a competition in Scotland recently.

Ella Thompstone, who attends St Gabriel’s school, was first up and dominated her fight against her heavier opponent from the first bell to the last, finishing a big points winner and retaining her unbeaten record.

Second up was double European champion Lewis Bentley, who also attends St Gabriel’s, defending his European title against the Scottish number one.

Lewis dominated his opponent from start to finish, also coming out a massive points winner.

Last up for the gym was another European champion, MacKenzie Maclean, who travels from Audenshaw to train at the Bury gym.

He also faced the Scottish number one, Liam Donnelly, and every round was competitive and close, but Mackenzie edged a unanimous points win.

The three results kept up the gym’s unbeaten start to the year and underlined its status as one of the best in the country.

It has its own show coming up, after a gap of eight years, at Ashton Masonic Hall.

There will be between 10 and 12 of the gym’s own fighters competing, both juniors and adults, and they will form the majority of the card that will feature fighters from all over the UK.
