RADCLIFFE AC's Fiona Lynch said it was one of the best experiences she had ever had when she took on the gruelling 61-mile Fellsman in the Yorkshire Dales.

She covered its tough 11,000-plus feet of climbing on rugged terrain in 17hrs 58mins and was ninth-placed woman.

The event, in its 56th year, is a high-level traverse over moorland from Ingleton to Threshfield and navigational skills and physical fitness are tested to the full with climbs up Ingleborough and Whernside.

Checkpoints provide food and drink along the way and at dusk competitors are grouped together through the night for safety.

There was good weather for her for most of the event  with light showers during the night.

She said: "A top-10 finish for that event is a fantastic surprise."

Also in the Yorshire Dales on Saturday five took on what is billed as a marathon with mountains when they ran one of the oldest and most famous fell races in Britain, the Three Peaks Fell Race.

Covering 23 miles and 5,276 feet of climbing, a top-class field climbed Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough before finishing in Horton-in-Ribblesdale.

First home for the club was Ian Warrington in 4:19:51, despite a fall, while Paul Swyers (V50) ran 5:00:35, disappointed not to duck under the five hours, and Chris Paxton and Luigi Salzano ran in together in 5:37:15.

With the London Marathon still in her legs, Lisa Carter was disappointed to be timed out but not before she had climbed two of the tough peaks.

John Gibbs had a great time of 1:27:50 in his first half marathon at Chester on Sunday.

On a fast, largely flat city and rural course he was pleased with his time in the 37th running of the race.

On an undulating course, five ran the Wray Scarecrow 10k in the Lune Valley on Saturday, part of the village's Scarecrow Festival and Fair Week.

Dave Rushton (V50) was first home for the club in 45:25, while Paula Abernethy (V50) ran 46:59, Ken Smith (V60) 48:13, Wayne Holden 1:03:49 and Sarah Rushton (V40) 1:04:53.

Mark Garner travelled to Derbyshire on Sunday to run the Chatsworth 10k in the grounds of Chatsworth Estate and he clocked 49:42 on some challenging mixed terrain.

Vince Ashton did the double when he ran the Lancaster parkrun in 29:02 and then went on to run the Bay Gateway 10k at Lancaster in 56:09.
