RADCLIFFE AC's Neal Emmerson won the Windermere Marathon on Sunday, clocking a great 2hrs 44mins.

In hot conditions he was determined to improve on his position last year when he came home fourth and he beat his last year's time by more than six minutes.

Ian Warrington also ran clocking 3:08:48, coming 20th and using the event as a training run for the Lakeland 50 later in the year.

The race on Sunday, starting from Brathay Hall in Ambleside, is one of only a handful run entirely on a World Heritage site and has stunning views over England's largest lake.

Mountain men Peter McNulty and Mauro Rotondi tackled the challenging Old County Tops Fell Race on Saturday, covering its 37 miles and tough 10,000 feet of climbing in 11:18:00. Both had retired from the race last year in horrendous weather conditions but  the weather was perfect this year for the 30th running of the event, which takes in Helvellyn, Scafell Pike and Coniston, starting and returning to Langdale.

Running as a team they had 12 hours to complete it and received a T-shirt and commemorative buff.

Fiona Lynch and Lisa Carter were timed out,  Carter suffering the effects of an eye problem.

Also taking to the hills was Andy Haines, who ran the Kong Mini Marathon, an evening event in the Peak District. With a two-hour score format and including a river crossing he scored 230 points out of 480 and was 44th out of 89, running with dog Rosie.

Jen Entwistle ran Liverpool's Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on Sunday and clocked 5:19:00, while four ran the Liverpool Half Marathon with Kate Holden clocking 1:43:02, a personal best, and Peter Warr finishing in 2:14:00.

He had been aiming for sub-2hrs 15mins, so was pleased with his time.

Kirsten Cook ran 2:19:01 and Sarah Oxley 2:46:00.

In the festival weekend of running in Manchester, Chris Whittaker and John Gibbs ran together on Sunday in the Greater Manchester Half Marathon with Whittaker, in his first half, clocking 1:27:14 and Gibbs two seconds after. Sharon Peterkin also ran in 2:37:00 in her third half. Daughter Megan, a junior member, ran with her older sister Gabrielle in the 3k event.

In the now famous 10k finishing on Deansgate, eight ran from the club with Mark Williams clocking 43:27 and daughter Grace 1:04:00 in her first 10k race.

Nick Barnes ran 49:08, Sheila Jones (first V60) clocked 51:59, Amanda Hey (V50) 58:26, Wayne Holden 1:05:14, Lisa Donnelly (V50) 1:06:59 and Christine Berry (V50) 1:12:45.

Jenny Yates (V50) enjoyed her first race win when she was first woman in the midweek Cowm 5k Race at Whitworth, running 21:30.

On Saturday she ran the Pilling 10k at Preston and was first vet-50 in 44:58.

Rob Lister got himself a seventh place when he ran the Anderton Boat Lift 10k in Cheshire on a glorious undulating course where he clocked 44:35.

There were some great performances at the midweek Hollingworth Lake 5k series at Littleborough with Ian Warrington getting a personal best time by 40 seconds in 17:28 and he finished 11th out of 161 runners.

Chris Whittaker was first male 35 in a PB of 17:44 in 14th place and John Gibbs was third male 35 with a PB of 18:14 in 18th position.

Paul Barrinton (V40) ran 23:09, Sarah Turner (V45) 24:36, Caroline Malone (V45) 25:11, Kathryn McPrince (V40)

26:47, while Debi Warrington (V45) had a PB with 27:14 and Deborah Barrington (V40) also had a PB of 27:25. The ladies' and men's teams were both second.

John Andrew was pleased with his overall time of 3:45:28 in the Slateman Triathlon in Wales and at the shorter St Anne's Triathlon, Caroline Malone had an overall time of  1:21:24.

In the parkruns, Mark Garner had plenty to celebrate. As well as getting married on Saturday it was his 50th parkrun and he had a PB of 21:22.
