Rossendale Badminton League


BADMINTON: Team shortages decimated the cup quarter-finals of the Rossendale League's Imperial Consultants Cup. Oakgate and Blackford Bridge went through to the semi-finals with both Rising Bridge A and Riverside conceding their matches.

In the Imperial Consultants Cup, the handicappers made a woeful start. Badgercote, who have had an indifferent season, received a 60.5-point start against Broadway. But Badgercote raced away from the start and at the end of the night won the match by 14 points without the handicap being added.

The last team to make the semi-final was Transport. They received a 47.5-point start over Fearns A. Although the scoresheet has not been received confirmation has emerged that Transport went through to the next round.

In the Imperial Consultants Trophy. Fearns B conceded their match against Towneley.

The handicappers were in better form in the Imperial Consultants Trophy. Edenfield received a 115.5-point start in their match against Fearns C. Everything was going to plan for Fearns C as they won the first 12 games of the match.

Edenfield halted the slide, winning the 13th and 14th games. Despite a Fearns comeback, Edenfield took the last game of the match 21-19 to scrape home by 3.5 points.

Rising Bridge B had a tough task, giving Racqueteers 103.5 points start, but when their third man failed to appear the task was impossible. Despite winning all possible 12 games played, they lost the match by 140.5 points.

Goodshaw had to give Phoenix 80.5-point start. They were soon into their stride and kept the pressure on until the end, running out winners by 52.5 points.
