Rochdale Cobras 18 Bury Broncos 28

RUGBY LEAGUE: North West Counties Division Five side Bury Broncos enjoyed a free weekend from league action and gave some new players a run out in a friendly against their local rivals.

The Broncos drew first blood when Simon Palin sent a looping ball out to Danny Lockey on the wing who made up some yards and carried the ball over for the first try.

Another try from Matthew Fish added to the Broncos’ tally as the 6ft 8ins player crashed through Cobras defence to dive over the line.

Two further tries from Mark Jones and Damian Hall were disallowed when they were held up.

Hard work by the pack allowed hooker Chris Radford to put a kick into the hands of debutant Liam Haycock who scored a fine team try.

The second half started with substitute Phil Bygrave breaking loose on the left wing with his first touch of the ball to go over for a try.

The move of the game came on 50 minutes when Matt Taylor unselfishly passed to Joe Galpin who stepped inside and scored on his debut.
