SIX Radcliffe AC members joined more than 37,000 runners in the biggest ever London Marathon on Sunday. First home for the club was Fiona Lynch in a great time of 3hrs 22mins 33secs.

In good running conditions she was followed by Luigi Salzano clocking 3:56:53 in his third marathon in just a few months. He is planning to run five to raise cash for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Vet-55 Sheila Jones ran 4:02:37, Kris Booth 4:05:54, Paul Barrington 4:28:01 and Gail Champion 4:37:06.

The day before conditions had been completely different when three members, all vet-40s, took on the Three Peaks Fell Race climbing the Yorkshire Dales famous mountains.

In grim weather including sleet and snow, Dave Ward, who ran 4:27:14, slashed a massive 18 minutes of his previous time last year when he tackled the 23miles with 5,275 feet of climbing.

Paul Swyers and Mauro Rotondi were gutted when they were timed out at a checkpoint having already run a gruelling 18 miles of the event. Rotondi also suffered with cramp but both commented afterwards they were up for another go next year.

The event is one of the oldest and most famous fell races in Britain and was in its 61st year. It climbs Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Ward, who was placed 396th out of 700 runners said: "Conditions were pretty grim and there was snow on top of Ingleborough."

In the tough Bolton10k in cool but good conditions at Leverhulme Park on Sunday, Mark Williams took a fine 36th place out of hundreds of runners with a time of 41:10 and daughter Grace, a junior member, was seventh in the fun run. John Scarlett clocked 42:48secs, Mark Wolfenden 47:09secs and Dawn Evans in only her fourth 10k ran 1:13:39.

The day before Scarlett had clocked 20:41 at the 5k Bolton Parkrun coming 15th out of 266 runners. Rob Lister ran 27:23 and Rachael Molloy 31:06.

At Heaton Park, Peter Hunter was 43rd out of 609 runners with 21:24. Vince Ashton had a personal best with 23:25secs, putting him in 102nd position and sixth in the vet-40 age group. Katya Pursall (V40) clocked 33:12secs and Iain Harris (V65) 34:13.
