RADCLIFFE AC's Chemane Brier claimed a great eighth placing out of 374 when she ran the latest 10k in the Women Running Series in Sefton Park, Liverpool.

In front of a cheering crowd and in blustery conditions she was pleased with her place and time of 46mins 32secs and said with no-one visible in front of her near the finish and the cheering it made it feel like she was winning the race.

And it was more success for Radcliffe women on Sunday when three took on the Windmill Half Marathon on the Fylde Coast. On a fast flat two loop course starting from Lytham St Anne's Kate Holden ran 1:53:55, 17 minutes faster than her previous best half marathon.

Zena Knowles clocked 1:58 and Kirsten Cook ran 2:05:48, six minutes faster than her previous best. Their unusual medals were in the shape of a windmill.

It was the turn of the men when eight ran the midweek Ian Terry Memorial 5k at Whitworth, Rochdale. Described as tough but a "cracking" race, starting uphill, Peter Hunter was eighth in 19:26, Dave Bartlett 14th in 20:44 and Steve Hamer (V50) 15th in 21:11. Mark Emmett ran 22:42 and was 19th, while Chris Saville clocked 23:51, Chris Fletcher 25:17, Iain Harris (V65) 27:44 and Tom West (V75) 29:28.

Vince Ashton travelled to Burnley to run a 5.27-mile trail race, part of the Pendle Family Running Festival.

On a hilly course more like a multi-terrain event he was in 18th place with a time of 50:19.

In the popular 5k parkruns, John Scarlett was sixth at Leverhulme Park, Bolton on Saturday out of 249 runners in a new personal best of 19:55, Paul Barrington ran 25:48, Kath Davies (V50) ran 26:10 and Rob Lister (V50) 28:52.

Eight ran at Heaton Park with Simon Barrett first home for Radcliffe in 20:19, Peter Hunter was 10 seconds behind him in 20:29, Mark Wolfenden (V45) ran 22:09, Sheila Jones (V60) 23:54, Vince Ashton (V40) 25:10, Chris Fletcher 26:58, Iain Harris (V60) a new personal best of 28:20 and Rachael Molloy clocked 29:14.
