LEGS will churn, wheels will turn and muscles will burn as Holcombe Harriers hosts one of the area’s toughest duathlons last this month.

The Holcombe Mountain Trial Duathlon will take place on September 20 at 9am and start from the Hare and Hounds pub in Holcombe Brook.

The race, which will see round 200 athletes compete, has been organised by the Holcombe Harriers club which formed in 2011 and is sponsored by Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall Solicitors.

The duathlon will consist of two 6.3km fell runs across the finest parts of Holcombe Moor and a 27km road cycle route around the classic ‘Mountain Trial Holcombe Circuit’. The event is open to anyone wanting to challenge themselves and entrants can choose to compete solo or as part of a relay team.

There will be prizes for every age group along with spot prizes for individual performances.

One of the founders of the club, John Kirkham, also a GB age group Duathlon Team member, commented: “We wanted to stage an event which could meet the demand of athletes in East Lancashire who enjoy testing themselves and so this terrain and distance is engineered to be particularly challenging.

“Lots of our members have pulled together to allow this event to take shape and we are also grateful for the commitment from our sponsor Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall which will be supporting with race numbers, directional signs for the course and other signposting.”
