A DEPLETED team of young athletes made the journey to Connah’s Quay for the second of four UK Youth Development League fixtures.

What the team lacked in numbers they made up for in spirit as many athletes competed across multiple events to maximise the team score.

The youngsters did themselves and the club proud, winning the fixture with 575 points, 43 ahead of second-placed Menai AC.

Victory put Bury in strong contention for the overall prize, with the next fixture at their home track on Sunday, June 19.

The under-13s boys put in a string of excellent performances.

Jerel Livingston (100m, 200m and long jump), Gil Vaughan (100m, 1500m and shot), Evan Savage (200m, 800m and javelin), Elliot Savage (1500m and shot), Jay Cook (75m hurdles, javelin and high jump), Jack Andrew (800m, 75m hurdles and high jump) and Rory Pixton (long jump) covered all the events and delivered a number of individual victories.

Elliot, Evan, Jack and Jerel also teamed up to take second place in the 4x100m relay.

The u15s boys had even fewer athletes to call upon, but they did their bit for the cause.

Brandon Wilson (100m, discus and hammer), Jack Knowles (200m and 300m), Francis Woodcock (200m and 800m), Stefan Kalambouka (300m, 1500m and 80m hurdles), Patrick Clarke (80m hurdles, long jump and high jump) and Dan Matthews (javelin, discus and shot) kept the points ticking over and recorded some fine victories and personal best performances.

Stefan, Brandon, Dan and Jack took fourth place in the 4x100m relay, while Jack, Stefan, Francis and Patrick dominated the 4x300m, coming home more than 30m ahead of the second-placed team.

The u13s girls also scored some important points.

Ella Hall (75m, shot and long jump), Catherine Russell (75m, 150m and high jump), Erin Garroch (150m and 800m ), Lucy Pixton (800m, 70m hurdles and long jump), Erin Kenyon (1200m and javelin), Freya Potts (1200m and javelin) and Lucy Chandler (70m hurdles, shot and high jump) all performed brilliantly.

Catherine, Ella Lucy Pixton and Erin Kenyon combined to take second placed in the 4x100m relay.

The same team effort was evident in the performances of the u15s girls.

Grace Goodsell (100m, 200m and long jump), Amy Garroch (100m, 75m hurdles and high jump), Katherine Townsend (300m and discus), Rebecca Froggatt (300m and 800m), Heledd Rimmer (1500m,  javelin and shot), Charlotte Smith (1500m), Daisy Worthington (800m, 75m hurdles and long jump), Ellis Greenwood (discus, hammer and shot), Hannah Holland (hammer and high jump) and Hattie Vaughan (javelin and pole vault) produced several victories and personal bests.

The team of Hattie, Katherine, Amy and Grace won the 4x100m  relay and then in the 4x300m Hattie, Daisy, Rebecca and Katherine trounced the opposition, finishing more than 50m clear of the field.

The excellent performance of the athletes was matched by the energy of the adults who volunteered to officiate at the meeting, with Helen Vaughan and Ruth Worthington working really hard to contribute to the overall score.
