GREAT weather tempted out 201 competitors to take part in Radcliffe Athletic Club's Bull Hill Fell Race.

The popular event, which takes place on the moorland above Holcombe, was won by Horwich RMI Harrier Danny Hope in a time of 35mins 34secs.

Phil Marsden, of Bolton United Harriers, was a close second, completing the 5.2 mile course in 35:59, while home runner Matt Driver, of Holcombe Harriers, was third in 36:53.

Last year's winner, Ashley Holt (V40), from Rossendale Harriers, just missed out on a place on the podium, finishing fourth in 37:44.

Sophie Horrocks, of Rossendale Harriers, was first woman home in 41:48, followed by Ali Keats (V55), of the Fell Runners Association, in 45:47 and Deborah Gowans (V50), from Accrington Road Runners, in 46:44.

The event involves 1,100 feet of climbing, starting from Hawkshaw, with registration and the presentation held in the village's Red Lion pub.

There was a fine fourth place for Neal Emmerson in the Pendle Running Festival Half Marathon when he clocked 1:31:00.

Billed as a "challenging yet scenic" event, runners faced 2,000 feet of climbing starting at Whitehough Outdoor Education Centre near Barley.

Four Radcliffe members ran the popular Cheshire Half Marathon. Peter Hunter was first home in 1:38:03, followed by John Wrigley 1:45:00, Amanda Hey (V50) 1:51:52 and Emma Moss (V40) 2:07:29.

Rob Lister had a busy day when he ran the Blackburn 5k Parkrun in 23:07 on Saturday morning then went on to clock 49:45 in the 5.8-mile Warton Crag Fell Race.

In the 10th anniversary run of the Royton Trail Race from the Tandle Hill Tavern in Middleton, Kris Lee was 60th out of 299 runners in a time of 39:04., while Caroline Mullineaux made it home in 50:33.

Chris Paxton was the only Radcliffe runner in the Tor Mile Fell Race from Helmshore, completing one of the oldest fell races in the country in 17:17.

Ian Hopkinson took part in the Trafford All Terrain Challenge in the Mersey Valley. Billed as a three mile race, it was actually shorter but he was still well pleased with his time of 24:55.
