BURY athlete Hannah Kelly followed up her fantastic bronze medal in the 200m at the English Schools’ Championships last week with another two medals on her international call-up.

The St Gabriel's pupil pulled on the England vest at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford, Kent to line up with team-mate Georgina Adam against the best sprinters from Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the SIAB Schools' International.

Despite being drawn on the outside in lane eight, Kelly blasted from the start and entered the straight in the lead, leaving most of the girls in her wake.

She was still leading narrowly with 40m to go before Adam overtook.

With just five metres remaining, silver seemed certain but Irish number one Lauren Roy dipped at the right time to push her into third in a time of 25.28secs.

Agonisingly, Kelly was only 0.09 seconds from gold, but the Bolton United Harrier, who is sponsored by Bury firm Evergreen Pensions, was delighted to be on the podium.

She added to her medal haul shortly afterwards, running the first leg and helping the England team win gold in the 4x100m relay.

Club sprint coach Les Hall said: “Hannah’s success is testimony to her dedication and hard work. She has the ability and mental strength to continue to improve and hopefully gain more and more international honours.”
