RADCLIFFE AC's Fiona Lynch took on Wales' highest peak on Sunday when she raced the gruelling Snowdonian Trail Marathon.

Lynch battled continual rain and more than 5,500ft of climbing to come home as seventh woman in a time of 5hrs 12mins.

Lynch, who was recently the first woman to finish in the 55k Ultimate Trails Challenge in the Lake District and broke the women's course record, said she found the going in Wales very tough in the bad weather on a course covering road, trail and fell.

Starting and finishing in Llanberis it circumnavigated and eventually climbed Wales' highest peak, Snowdon. Lynch was raising money for the baby charity, Tommy's, and so far has reached around £200.

Parkrun gypsy Vince Ashton notched up his 25th location on Saturday when he ran at Chadderton Hall in Oldham.

Going for as many venues as he can and only five more before he gets to his 100th 5k parkrun the vet-40 runner clocked 26mins 24secs, and was third in his age group.

Peter Hunter was 34th out of 519 at Heaton Park in 20:46. Sheila Jones (V60) recorded 23:26, Nick Barnes 24:01 and Chris Fletcher 24:21. Ian Hopkinson had a personal best with 28:16 and Carly Rourke ran 29:25.

At Bolton Mark Williams (V50) was high up the finishers as usual in 16th place out of 292 with 20:56. Paul Swyers (V50) ran 22:01, Eileen Royle (V65) 27:49, Sarah Rushton (V45) 31:22 and Andy Wheeler (V60) 33:02.

Rob Lister was the only Radcliffe runner at Haigh Hall Parkrun and the vet-50 was 11th in 22:21.
