RADCLIFFE AC's Jim Rhodes is proof that medals are not just won by younger runners.

The vet-75 received a bronze medal when he was third in his age group in the Northern Masters 5k Track Championship at Leigh Sports Village with a time of 36mins 34secs.

He was one of two members competing in the midweek event with Karen Doherty taking a gold medal in the vet-40 age group, clocking 28:35, a personal best time.

In the midweek 6.2-mile Lee Mill Fell Race from Stackstead in the Rossendale Valley Peter Hunter was first home for the club, covering 1,089ft, in 1hr 00mins 27secs, a time which put him 45th out of 97 runners. Chris Paxton ran 1hr 3mins and in her first club race Katie Percival clocked 1hr 13mins 7secs.

Paxton was back in fells action in the Lake District on Saturday when he ran the Beetham Village Sports fell race at a festival for children and adults. After he ran the 5.8 miles with 928ft of climbing in just under 50mins he was then persuaded to take part in a 1,600m event and won a box of chocolates.

Rob Lister (V50) ran the Sale Harriers Summer Sizzler 5k, taking three seconds off his previous best time and running 20mins 36 secs, coming 193rd out of 606.

He also ran the Bolton 5k Parkrun on Saturday, coming first among nine club members with an even better time of 20mins 4secs. Next in was V45 runner Mark Wolfenden in 22:34secs. Kate Percival ran a PB in 25:03, as did Caroline Mullineaux

(V40) clocking 25:45.

Radcliffe's other runners were: Eileen Royle (V65) 27:03, Sarah Rushton (V45) 31:05, Wayne Holden 32:47, Andy Wheeler (V60) 33:11 and Wendy Fairhurst 37:52.

Vince Ashton ran three events over the weekend, the Lancaster Parkrun where he recorded 25:25, another 5k in the evening when he clocked 23:10 and a five-mile event the following day in which he ran 41:11.

At Heaton Parkrun Peter Hunter clocked 20:13, Lee Cooper had a PB with 20:44, Nick Barnes ran 23:47, Chris Fletcher 24:44, Shaun Boult (V40) 30:12. Iain Harris (V65) 30:17 and Caroline Taylor Smith (V40) 33:12.

In the Conwy Parkrun Ian Hopkinson knocked 26 seconds off his previous best time with a 27:49 run and Sheila Jones (V60) travelled to the Lake District where she ran the Fell Foot Parkrun near Newby Bridge and clocked 24:17.

Fire officer Tony Holt took on the Belfast Titanic Triathlon and came home first MV55 competitor. Holt also formed part of the victorious Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service team, with Northern Ireland second and Merseyside third.
