BURY AC played host to the third of the four Cheshire Track and Field League fixtures this year and used the home advantage to good effect.

The men’s team took third place overall, their best placing of the season, and the women’s team were also third while the under-11s took second.

For the seniors there were victories in the A and B 1500m events for Christie Cook and Alison Dale respectively.

There was a clean sweep in the 3,000m with Ben Coop winning the A race, Giles Bennett the B, Mark Johnson the C and Andy Worthington the D. Siobhan Guy won the women’s A 3,000m.

Good performances also came from Mike Hunter in the 100m, Roger Morley in the triple jump and discus throwers Ruth Worthington and Pam Hitchen.

For the u17s, Hashim Shah was runner-up in the A 100m, as was Oliver Kirkby in the B race. Chloe Fairhurst took fifth in the 100m A race.

The u15s events saw wins for Daisy Worthington (B 100m) and the girls 4x100m relay team. There were good individual performances from Stefan Kalambouka and Oliver Donnelly in the 100m and 1500m races, Patrick Clarke and Seb Brett in the 100m and long jump, and from high jumpers Grace Goodsell and Amy Garroch.

Jerel Livingston was the star performer for the u13s. He won the A 200m and A high jump with an excellent effort of 1.50m and helped the team to second in the relay. Jay Cook (200m and 800m), Evan Savage (200m and 800m), Rowan Norberry (100m, 800m and shot) and Elliot Savage (shot) also scored vital points for the boys.

For the girls Ella Hall (100m and long jump), Grace Gibson (100m and 800m), Abigail Howard (100m), Erin Garroch (100m and javelin), Erin Kenyon (800m and javelin), Freya Potts and Eleanor Long (800m) and Lucy Pixton (long jump) all kept the points coming in. The relay team took third in a quality field.

The u11s squad again showed the future strength and potential of the club. There were individual victories for Charlie Fawcett (C 600m), Harry Yates (A javelin), Matilda Brett (D 75m and D 600m), Connie Potts (B 600m and javelin) and Esther McGrath (C 600m). There were also excellent performances from Oliver Horford (75m and 600m), Noah Carter (75m, 600m, long jump and javelin), Jacob Bauley (75m and 600m), Pearl Porter (75m, 600m and long jump), Millie Yates (75m) and Ayva Turner (javelin). The boys and girls team both finished as runners-up in their respective sprint relays.

Last week at the Trafford Grand Prix meeting Jenna Allen-Cartwright set an excellent new personal best of 63.24 in the 400m.

This weekend sees the seniors compete in the final North of England Track and Field League fixture of the season, with Bury already assured of promotion.
