BURY scored another hat-trick of team victories in the third fixture of the Red Rose Cross Country League at Leverhulme Park in Bolton on Saturday.

The senior and under-20s women's teams and u17s men all repeated their wins from the previous Red Rose meeting.

Katie Buckley led the women’s team home, taking a fine second place.

Sophie Whittaker was fifth overall but was again first u20s runner to finish.

Donna Cartwright was 10th to give the Bury team a commanding victory.

Christie Cook was 18th overall and fifth u20s finisher, with Lauren Booth finishing sixth in the u20s race to secure the team trophy.

Oliver Makinson produced a fantastic run in the u17s men’s race, pushing Rossendale’s Josh Whitehead to the line before finishing second, pushing Bury's Marcus Dey into third.

Alex Bennett's 11th-placed finish was enough to hand Bury team victory.

The senior men claimed an excellent third place in what was a very competitive team event.

Ben Coop was sixth, Jim Ardin 18th, Dave Cullen 25th, Luke Harreld 31st, Benn Heywood 35th and Giles Bennett 89th.

The u11s boys were also third, with Harry Yates finding form again to finish seventh, while Noah Carter was 11th and Finley Collins 14th.

The u11s girls went one better than the boys, finishing second in the team event.

Reilly Carson finished eighth and was well supported by Katie Rayner (12th) and Millie Yates (14th).

The u13s boys and girls teams were both fifth. The boys' scoring runners were Jack Andrew (12th), Jacob Allen (14th) and Jay Cook (29th), while Freya Potts in an excellent eighth place, Erin Kenyon (18th) and Lucy Pixton (20th) were scorers for the girls.

Francis Woodcock led home the u15s boys' team, fighting hard to finish sixth ahead of team-mate Brandon Quinton in seventh. Stefan Kalambouka completed the scoring in 14th as the boys finished third in the closest team race of the day – just seven points separated the first three teams.

The u15s girls had to settle for fourth, wit Daisy Worthington 6th, Heledd Rimmer 17th and Ellie Carter 20th.

Bury only had two athletes in the u17s women’s race – Lucy Alcock was seventh and Gemma Allen-Cartwright 19th.

The final league fixture is at the notoriously hard Marl Pitts venue in Rawtenstall on Saturday, December 3.
