BURY athletes Hannah Kelly and Jerel Livingston produced some terrific performances to take centre stage at the Northern Athletics Indoor Championships at Sheffield.

Kelly, a pupil at St Gabriel's RC School in Bury who runs for Bolton United Harriers, claimed double gold in the under-17s 60m and 200m, while Bury Athletic Club sprinter Livingston produced personal bests in the u15s 60m, 200m and long jump.

England came calling for Kelly last August and it looks as if the 16-year-old could be set for many more international call-ups in the years to come.

She was able to ease down on her way to victory in her 60m heat but still clocked 7.83secs, then won her semi-final in 7.81 and broke her personal best to take gold in the final with 7.76.

It was a similar story for her in the 200m, jogging the last 50m of her heat to qualify in 26.15 then cranking it up to win the semi-final in 25.15 before recording the fastest time at u17s in the UK this year to power past the field in the final in 24.93.

Kelly secured her place at next month's national indoor championships, where she will be joined by Whitefield athlete Livingston.

In his first year at u15s level, the 12-year-old claimed silver in the 60m in a new best time of 8.21 and then won his heat in the 200m with another PB of 26.45.

However, his best performance came in the long jump where Livingston produced an enormous leap of 5.34m, not only improving his personal best but moving him up to 12th in the UK age ranking for the event.

Bury Athletic Club team-mate Hattie Vaughan was also on top form at Saturday's Vault Manchester event at Sportcity, improving her personal best in the pole vault by 5cm with a leap of 3.11m.

The vault secured third place in the competition and moved her up to seventh in the UK ranking in her age group for the event.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Ollie Makinson finished first in the parkrun event at Heaton Park, setting a new personal best of 16:30 after holding off the challenge team-mate Marcus Dey.

Stefan Kalambouka was 12th and Giles Bennett finished 14th, just in front of Sophie Whittaker, who was first woman finisher in a new best of 18:43.

Donna Cartwright, meanwhile, was the sole Bury competitor in the South East Lancs Cross Country League race at Leigh, finishing seventh in the senior women’s race and first in the female vet-40 category.
