RADCLIFFE AC had one of its highest attendances for years at its annual prize presentation on Saturday night at Bury Masonic Hall.

Showing the club is growing from strength to strength, 81 runners, family and friends enjoyed a dinner, raffle and disco.

Prizes for the club championships on road, trail, fell and cross country were presented by club president Tom West and chairman Chris Paxton.

Neal Emmerson, who won the club's road and trail championships, picked up the Norman Schofield Trophy for his outstanding all-round performances.

Ian Warrington was awarded the Radcliffe Shield for his hard work supporting the club in coaching and organising marshalling for the growing number of races now being run by the club. He was won the club's cross country championships and was second on the road.

The Nellie Halstead Trophy, named after Radcliffe's former Olympian, went to vet-60 Sheila Jones. She was first in her age group on the road.

Karen Doherty performances in finishing first vet-40 on the trails and third in cross country earned her the Terry Nortley Cup, named after the club's former president and coach, who died in 2011.

Most improved woman went to Caroline Mullineaux and Kris Lee won the men's prize.

Fiona Lynch, who has had some good performances throughout the season, was leading woman in the cross country championship.

Members were also busy racing last weekend.

Emmerson was one of five Radcliffe runners who took part in the Wigan running festival.

He was seventh on a hilly course in the Wigan Half Marathon, knocking six minutes off his previous best time with 1hr 19mins 19secs.

John Wrigley knocked 18 minutes of his previous best, finishing 49th in 1:27:11 and Chris Paxton beat his previous best by five minutes, clocking 1:28:20 to finish 55th. Peter Hunter ran 1:40:07.

In the Wigan 5k, there was another PB for Mike Kontowtt, who went under 20 minutes for the first time, clocking 19:28. He was 32nd and third vet-50.

There was drama in the 15.4-mile Heptonstall Fell Race on Sunday when, in brutal conditions, Kris Lee and Scott Baxter helped pull a woman competitor out of a deep bog she had fallen into. All three managed to carry on and finish the race.

The West Yorkshire event climbed 3,169 feet in the upper Calder Valley area in wild, open countryside and was the first event in the Run The Moors Grand Prix.

Lisa Carter and Mauro Rotondi ran the fell race having already done  a very muddy Cartmel 18k Trail Race in the Lake District the day before, Rotondi clocking 1:43:00 in the Lakeland event and Carter 2:00:00.

First home at Heptonstall was Fiona Lynch in 2:5031, just beating James Hall by one place as he clocked 2:50:47.

Other results: Rotondi 2:59:19, Dave Rushton 3:01:26, Lee 3:13:10, Baxter 3:14:35 and  Carter 3:35:42.

In the Lancaster Trimpell 20, on a tough course climbing to the castle, three members took on horrible conditions on Sunday with Chemane Brier coming home first, clocking 2:55:00.

Other results: Amanda Hey 3:00:00, Sarah Oxley 4:20:00.

In the Wilmslow Half Marathon, Beverley McGrath and Caroline Taylor Smith braved the wet conditions to run together, clocking 2:54:00, and in Cartmel 10k in the Lakes, Louise Bowden ran 1:02:00.
