RADCLIFFE AC's James Hall took on the tough challenge of the Great Lakeland Three-Day Mountain Marathon and finished eighth out of more than 80 runners in his class.

Hall took part in the Wainwright class, which is designed for runners, and finished with an overall time of 17hrs 11mins 44secs.

The event started and finished in Coniston and included 18-miles of running on the hills each day, with the competitors staying in different overnight camps during the race.

Mauro Rotondi and Lisa Carter were also in competition in the Lakes, running in the Kentmere 17k Trail Race from Staveley.

On footpaths and bridleways, it had stunning views of the southern Lakeland fells and Rotondi completed the course in 1:39:00, with Carter clocking 1:53:36.

Louise Bowden did the Kentmere 17k Trail Challenge from the same venue, finishing the scenic course, which included equal measures of hills and bluebells, in around two hours.

Also on the bluebell trail at the weekend were eight Radcliffe runners who took part in the Yarrow Bluebell 10k Trail Run in Yarrow Community Park at Chorley, which included a river crossing.

Dave McGrath was first Radcliffe runner home in seventh, in a time of 45:40.

Chris Saville (V40) 1:04:08, Ian Hopkinson (V40) 1:05:44, Kath Davies (V50) 1:06:52, Eileen Sharman 1:08:01, Karen Doherty (V40) 1:08:50, Bev McGrath (V45) 1:14:14 and Lucy Dewhurst 1:17:09. 

Sarah Oxley described the Bluebell Trail 10, a multi-terrian race near Halifax as "beautiful but brutal". She finished the hilly course in 2:15:00.

In the Heaton Park 10k Mike Kontowtt (V50) had plenty to be pleased about. He had a personal best time of 42:07 and finished 14th out of 290 runners. Sheila Jones (V60) finished 15th woman in 50:48.

Seven Radcliffe runners faced hot conditions when they ran the Edgworth 5k Reservoir Challenge, taking in the Wayoh Reservoir but with a sting in the tail up a steep hill to the finish.

Chris Paxton was fourth out of 170 in 19:53.

Paul Swyers (V40) took to the hills in the Great Hameldon Hill Fell Race at Accrington, covering the six miles with 1,100 feet of climbing in 52:24.
