THE crowd that gathered for the first Central Lancashire 5km Grand Prix of the series at Leverhulme Park, Bolton on Sunday led a minute’s applause for former Radcliffe AC president Terry Nortley before the race.

Steve Lomax was the best placed Radcliffe runner, finishing 37th out of a 245-strong field in a time of 18mins 23secs.

Bury AC’s Katie Geelan earned a superb fourth place finish overall in the women’s race in a new personal best of 19:28. The time saw her finish second in the veterans’ race and first in her W35 age category.

Elsewhere, Radcliffe’s Donna Cartwright earned a well-deserved fourth place in the Studmarks from the Summit race near Littleborough.

She completed the 5.5 mile fell course, which is the first race in the Run the Moors Grand Prix series, in 43:45.

Other good results for Bury AC runners at the weekend included Andy Milligan’s sixth place in the Heaton Park 5km, which he completed in a time of 18:36.

And Grace Conroy, who also runs for Edinburgh University, finished 31st in the Scottish National Under-20 Women’s Cross-Country Championships in Falkirk, completing the Other Radcliffe AC results Leverhulme Park 5km: Dave Bartlett: 19:02, Rob Shiels 19:06, Rob Andrew 20:02, Don Whiley (V45) 20:04, Tony Holt (V50) 21:00, Mark Emmett (V50) 22:39, Ross Calvert 23:32, Mark Murphy 24:48, Eileen Sharman (V55) 25:55, Vince Ashton (V40) 26:30, Iain Harris 30:31, Jim Rhodes (V65) 30:36.

Studmarks from the Summit: Completing the course were George Critchley (V50), Steve Hamer (V50), Mark Cartwright (V40), Kath Davies (V45), John Kirham (V60), Berin Jones, Alan Sumner (V65), Sheila McNulty (V65) and Tom West (V70).
