ATHLETICS: RADCLIFFE AC's Anna Lupton had an excellent run in the 24-mile Three Peaks Fell Race on Saturday, finishing 17th woman in an international field of 742 runners.
Lupton, who has competed in the event once before, smashed her previous personal best, running the course in 3hrs 56mins 54secs.
The race incorporated the fifth World Long Distance Mountain Running Challenge, including competitors from 19 countries.
It started from the tiny village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales and took in the three famous peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, recording 5,000 feet of climbing.
Conditions were ideal for running and the first woman home was Czech athlete Anna Pichrtova in a record time of 3hrs 14mins 43secs. Among the men it was Scotland's Jethro Lennox who was the surprise winner.
Also taking part from Radcliffe was V50 Peter McNulty, who was running the event for the first time and was pleased with his time of 4hrs 16mins 41sec.
On Sunday Radcliffe held its annual 10k race from Radcliffe High School and the successful event drew 253 runners with James Kevan from Horwich taking first place.
