BURY Cycle Speedway Club successfully staged the European Club Championships at Goshen Sports Centre.

The event involved three days of high-speed action involving eight Polish clubs along with a number of English clubs.

The best riders in the world showed their class on a magnificently prepared track which confirmed its reputation as one of the best in the country.

The championships included 17 16-heat matches with six on Saturday, seven on Sunday and in the semi-finals and finals on Monday.

Bury were eliminated after three rounds of qualifying matches over the first two days, along with Hethersett, Norwich and Polish club Swietochlowice.

Zielona Gora beat fellow Polish club Leszno in the final.

Bury riders Neil Howarth, Chris Parish, Paul Dyson, Fred Rothwell, Tom Doyle and Gary Hollinsworth took part in their three four-a-side matches.

On Sunday Bury take part in the second round of the Northern Fours and Junior League at Sheffield’s Cookson Park, 1pm start.
