THE biggest shock in Bury Open Snooker League was the unbeaten C Section table-toppers Radcliffe St Mary’s defeat to Bury Bridge – their first win of the campaign.

The Bridge clearly did not read the script, winning it 5-3 with Harry Holmes producing a tidy 71-31 success.

Tottington B continued their good start to the season when they overcame Huntley B 6-2. Dave Brooks won (62-15) to continue his own winning sequence.

When Walshaw entertained Seedfield B, decisive wins from Paul Davis (98-63) and a resurgent Steve Brookes (72-33) saw the hosts cross the winning line 5-3. A close match ensued when Whitefied BC played Radcliffe Central B. Whitefield just edged the aggregate by nine chalks to take the game 5-3.

In A Section, Tottington A continue to extend their lead. Their latest victims were Whitefield B, who went down 7-1.

Oliver Barlow produced a fine display to win 71-26.

Radcliffe Central A are the nearest challengers after beating Elton Lib B 6-2. But the performance of the week belonged to Elton’s James Kay who recorded the highest break in the league this season with a 66 in his opening-frame 118-46 win. Despite Kay’s fine effort ,Radcliffe took the match on the final black.

Buchanans A had a pointless trip to Fishpool as the home side ran out 8-0 winners, Gaz Mcintosh opening proceedings with a 72-45 victory. Huntley A just lost out at home to Bury Snooker B.

Darren McHugh looked to set Huntley on the way with a 72-32 win, but Bury Snooker B took the aggregate by 14 chalks with Ray Hobman winning the final frame 76-39.

Another close match took place at Elton Lib A as they just edged out Salisbury 5-3. With two points in it going into the final frame, Steve Anderson took it 70-58 to ensure victory.

In B Section, Elton Lib D were the guests of their own C team. The C team were the perfect hosts as the D team ran out 9-0 winners, securing the summit of the division and bragging rights in the club. The other derby at Radcliffe Central saw the C team overcome the D team in a close match 5-3.

The performance of the match came from Alan Wardle, winning (86-30). Huntley C are enjoying life in the B Section and won at Buchanans B 7-2. All the frames were tight with Daz Harrison’s 67-38 proving crucial.

Seedfield A won another close match at home to Bury Snooker C, taking the aggregate by 12 chalks to secure a 5-3 win.

The battle at the bottom saw Whitefield A host Stanley, who climbed off the bottom of the table with a fine 7-2 win and were replaced by their beaten opponents.

Dave Kennedy closed the match out with a final-frame 61-19 win.
