IN the match of the day between two of B Section’s in-form teams, table-topping hosts Elton C overcame Stanley Conservatives 7-1.

Elton got off to a fantastic start thanks to Alan Brooks who knocked in a magnificent break of 73 – the highest in Bury and District Snooker League’s B Section this season. A fine 87-48 win by Paul Holt in the third frame consolidated Elton’s lead who were impressive winners and are now 15 points clear at the top.

Buchanans B entertained Bury Snooker C and secured only their second home win of the season.

Ged French won the fifth frame (90-42) of a close match, leaving Bury Snooker too much to do in the final frame as the hosts took the match 5-3.

Radcliffe Central D played Elton Lib D and a quickfire match ended 5-3 in Central’s favour for whom Jonny Holt compiled a 41 break in his 82-22 frame win.

In C Section, league leaders Radclifffe Central D faced mid-table Walshaw. A tight match saw Radcliffe take the initiative after four frames, but Alan Pask led the fightback for Walshaw and the frames and the aggregate all finished level with both teams taking four points.

Top performance in the section belonged to Bury Bridge when they entertained title-contenders Tottington Con A.

Bridge ended a long losing sequence to take the spoils 7-1, Graham Spencer having a fine 87-49 win. Tottington Con B are second thanks to a comfortable 7-1 win at home to Seedfield B. Dave Brooks enjoyed a 79-28 win as Tottington B got over the previous week’s blip to continue their strong push for honours at the business end of the season. Walmersley Con continued their ascent up the table by recording a 6-2 win at home to Huntley B. However, it took a scintillating performance in the final frame from David Morley, who won 78-35, to secure the aggregate by the narrowest of margins and send Walmersley third.

In the A Section, the name at the top of the table changed again as Bury Snooker D returned to the summit thanks to a 6-2 derby win at home to their D team. After losing the first two frames Dale Jones started the fight back with a good 78-34 win. The B team did not look back and won all the remaining frames. Waiting in the wings are Tottington Con D who moved into second with a fine win at home to Radcliffe Central A. Ian Martin enjoyed a welcome return to the league taking the opening frame, 93-66.

Tottington secured the match 7-1 to leave them well in contention while dealing a blow to Radcliffe’s own title ambitions. Whitefield Snooker B continued their tidy impression of Lazarus as they climbed off the foot of the table thanks to three matches unbeaten, including this week’s emphatic win at Salisbury. Matt Green set the tone in the open frame with a 106-17 success as Whitefield took all the frames to take the match 9-0.

Buchanans A remain in the title hunt and have now won five on the bounce after beating Huntley A 6-3, largely thanks to Mick Holleran and Martin Hulme, who had wins of 83-30 and 102-33, respectively. Elton Lib A hosted Fishpool and took the match 5-3, Mick Walton taking the final frame 125-50 to make the aggregate pretty emphatic.
