HOLCOMBE Brook A have won their first Bolton Tennis League junior title since 1995.
They overcame a strong challenge from Markland Hill A and Tydesley A.
The strength in depth of the club’s junior section was shown by their B team having a successful season by avoiding relegation.
Lostock A needed to win their final match against bottom of the league Tydesley B to stay up. Unfortunately, they had to field a weakened team and lost the match 8.5-3.5 and returned to Division Two for the first time since 2002.
Bellingham completed an unbeaten season in Division Two with a win over Bradshaw A in their final game. They be a useful addition to Division One next year.
Hawkshaw A join them in Division One after squeezing past Bradshaw A and Leigh CC in their last two matches, winning both 6.5-5.5.
Ben Coop starred for Hawkshaw in their latest victory, winning all his sets, partnered by sister Megan and Nathan Beaumont.
Also unbeaten were St Joseph’s A in Division Three who bounced back after last season’s relegation. Holcombe Brook C are runners-up.
Division Four has been close, the final match seeing David Lloyd (Manchester) visit Tyldesley C with both teams level on points.
They served up a real thriller in which the mixed sets were squared with one win each and two sets halved. The Tydesley girls won three sets with Lucy and Emily Harper winning both theirs; but David Lloyd’s boys produced the opposite results, winning three – Alex Sykes and Chris McWilliams winning both.
With the final score 6-6, it is David Lloyd (Manchester) who lifted the title by virtue of a better sets difference.
Unbeaten Bradshaw B finished on top of Division Five with Barrow Bridge worthy runners-up.
Both teams have recovered after relegation last year.
