RYAN Lowe is steeling himself for a backlash from Tranmere fans when the Merseyside club visit the JD Stadium tomorrow.

The Liverpudlian striker scored 20 goals for the Prenton Park outfit last season despite their relegation from League One, but decided to leave in the summer to renew his love affair with the Shakers.

Supporters of his former club were quick to accuse the 36-year-old on social media sites of leaving them in the lurch in pursuit of one last big pay packet.

But Lowe says that was a long way from the truth.

“People who know the true story know what happened and why I left,” he explained.

“I’ve come to an ambitious club. I didn’t want to stay at a non-ambitious club. The chairman put his money where his mouth was and got me back and they were quick to sell me.

“It seemed to me they were happy and I turned out to be happy.

“It’s football – if the money’s right then everyone’s happy.

“The Tranmere fans are probably going to give me a hard time, but I have gone through all of that before.

“There will be 11 lads out there on the pitch, it’s not just me they will have to worry about.”

Lowe is adamant the expected reaction from Tranmere fans will not distract him from the task of getting Bury’s promotion charge back on track following Saturday’s disappointing defeat at Exeter.

That result saw the Shakers drop two places in the table, just a week after replacing Burton Albion in top spot.

And the fans’ favourite hopes he and his team-mates can use what should be a charged atmosphere at the JD Stadium to kick-start their charge back to the League Two summit.

“It’s one of those things – I’m professional about my job, it’s just another team to me, another game, it doesn’t matter who it is,” said Lowe, who has moved clubs eight times in his professional career.

“If anything, it is going to be more exciting for the lads and myself after losing on Saturday.

“Good teams bounce back from performances like we had at Exeter, and we are definitely a good team, so hopefully we can do that this weekend.”

Lowe did have one word of warning for his team-mates, however, not to lose sight of the main prize – promotion – in pursuit of the title.

“We are not just here to finish second or third – we are here to show people what we are all about, play the right way and win the right way as well,” he said.

“You want to go up as champions – we are only 10 games in and you have seen we are standing here now disappointed we are only in third.

“But I think if you had asked any fan, 10 games in, if you would be happy being third I think they would have said yes.

“So while we are all disappointed, you have got to move on quickly, as we have done in the past, put it to bed and roll on Saturday.”
