BURY striker Clive Platt has retired from football, the club has announced.

The 37-year-old has only made two brief substitute appearances this season after undergoing a calf operation in the summer.

He played almost 70 minutes for the development squad against Manchester City recently, but suffered a torn hamstring and was due to be out for at least another two months.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Clive all the very best for the future and thank him for his service to the club,” said a spokesman for Bury.

Platt made more than 600 career appearances, scoring more than 100 goals, for clubs such as Walsall, Rochdale, MK Dons and Peterborough.

He joined Bury in January after being released by Northampton, going on to score two goals in 19 appearances.

The Shakers also announced today that young midfielder Duane Holmes has been recalled from his loan spell at the JD Stadium by parent club Huddersfield.
