FOOTBALL throws up plenty of problems for managers to solve, you don’t need go around creating your own.

So I wonder whether David Flitcroft wishes he never got rid of the Beast?

Brian Jensen proved last season that he was a fantastic goalkeeper at this level. You won’t find others with the same kind of experience.

He was a rock the defence could rely upon – a great shot stopper with a superb command of his penalty area and the organisational skills you need to keep the backline together.

I know Flicker had an issue with his distribution, but did that really have an impact on the way they played or what they could achieve?

The reality is that Bury have used three goalkeepers so far this season and, as yet, none of them quite worked out.

Now I appreciate the manager had a direction he wanted to go, but by letting Jensen leave the club he has just given himself an unnecessary problem to solve.

The amount of time and energy he has spent looking for a replacement could have best been served concentrating on other things.

But while I know Jensen is now available again after being released by Crawley Town, I don’t think for a million years Flicker will go back to him as a short-term solution.

Now that Flicker has finally got Scott Loach at the club, after missing out on him to Rotherham in the summer, I think he will stick with him.

That may not be what supporters want to hear after three error-strewn defeats in his first three games, but it is important the young keeper feels he has the backing of the manager.

When Loach arrived he was clearly lacking games and needs a decent run in the team if he is to regain that match sharpness, as well as his confidence.

Constant switching does not help anyone and is particularly damaging for a defence.

What Bury need now, after an unsettling few weeks on and off the pitch, is for the manager to send out a settled side.

The loan window closes today and that could be a blessing in disguise as, after a couple of misfires with Courtney Duffus and Tom Kennedy, he will now only be able to go with what he has got.

Injuries, of course, have not helped, but it is important not to panic.

Bury fans this time last year will have been happy to be in seventh place in the table.

I know expectations have been raised since then, but everything could suddenly look a lot better with a clean sheet and a win on Saturday.
