I WANT to see Bury come out with all guns blazing when League Two leaders Wycombe Wanderers visit the JD Stadium on Saturday.

They have been at their best this season when playing at a high tempo and I think that approach is key not just to this match but to the rest of the campaign.

We have seen what can be achieved when they are really on their game in their performance at home to Burton Albion in September, when Bury leapfrogged them into top spot with an exhilarating 3-1 win.

If they reach those levels against Wycombe then David Flitcroft’s side can certainly repeat that trick.

But from what I have seen of this weekend’s visitors, they will not be easy to steamroller.

I watched them at the end of November when they won at Hartlepool and they looked a really accomplished side.

They played some good stuff when they had the chance to and made good decisions both on and off the ball.

What I like about Gareth Ainsworth’s approach is that he makes sure everybody sticks to what they are good at.

They have a small, tight-knit group of players who don’t over-complicate anything and have not allowed themselves to get carried away with being at the top.

I know they only have a one-point lead over second-placed Burton and there is still a long way to go. But just to be up there competing for the title and automatic promotion in January is an amazing achievement considering their desperate fight to beat the drop last season.

To go from escaping by the skin of their teeth on the final day to now finding themselves in this position just shows how quickly things can change in this division.

I don’t think many pundits would have expected Bury to have dropped out of the play-off places after reaching the summit in September, but in many ways I think the position they are in now suits them better.

When the Shakers were top dogs I felt like they tried to live up to their billing, aiming to give fans Champagne football rather than focusing on the results, first and foremost.

They don’t have the same pressure to perform now.

Fans’ expectations are not as high, it is all about building up points and chasing down their promotion rivals.

Wycombe are the ones there to be shot at, they are the ones who will have to handle that pressure, and I still think Bury are well-equipped to shoot them down.

They have the players capable of firing the club to promotion, they just need to show they have the fire in their bellies to do it.
