BURY hung on to claim a valiant point at home to the League Two leaders amid wintry scenes at the JD Stadium.

Danny Mayor forced the ball in at the back post to hand the Shakers the lead in the 30th minute, catching Wycombe centre-back Alfie Mawson in possession after Ryan Lowe’s low centre had trickled across goal.

Lowe was forced off after sliding into the advertising hoardings behind the goal in the build-up.

And both sets of players had to show real bravery to contest the match on what was a bog of a pitch, with snow that fell before kick-off turning into puddles of mud as the game progressed.

After Bury took the lead, it was Wycombe who adapted to the conditions better and the table-toppers eventually levelled through Fred Onyedinma in the 68th minute.

The flying forward looked to have nudged Adam El-Abd in the back as he battled to get on the end of a long punt forward from Joe Jacobson. And with the Shakers centre-back lying prone on the floor Onyedinma fired the equaliser into the roof of the net.

Shakers assistant manager Chris Brass was sent to the stands for his protests following the goal.

And Bury’s debutant keeper Nick Pope, in his first appearance since signing on loan from Charlton, then produced two stunning saves to keep them in it and help seal the draw.

The point saw Bury drop a place to 10th, three points outside the play-offs.
