I WAS tempted to describe Bury’s recent run as unbelievable, but when you look at the players they have in the team I guess it should be no surprise at all.

In the likes of Danny Mayor, Leon Clarke and Tom Pope they have some of the best attacking talent in League One.

And now the whole side seems to be playing with confidence – defence and attack – the results are clear to see.

Keeping clean sheets is a massive thing.

At the beginning of the season they were struggling with that side of their game.

But David Flitcroft will be happy his players have come to terms with the division now, and with the strike force they have got they will always score goals.

It does not always work out that way.

You may feel as a manager your players have the talent to make that step up, but until they have played a few games at a higher level you don’t always know how they will take to it.

Anything can happen but they are doing absolutely fantastic at the moment and you can see with league leaders Burton as well that two of last year’s promoted sides are showing anything is possible.

I saw it last year covering Preston, the standard in League One is much of a muchness.

It is not like the Premier League, where there is a clear dividing line between the teams in the top half and those in the bottom.

Any team can beat any other in League One, that’s why it is a really interesting division to watch.

Bury fans have already experienced that in the first two months of the campaign.

They have seen their side pegged back by late goals from Swindon and Crewe and lose a seven-goal thriller at home to Fleetwood, not to mention the bizarre goings on at Doncaster on the opening day.

There were a few murmurings when it took them until the game at Walsall to get their first win but Flitcroft kept faith with his players and has plotted a course through the first eight matches with only one defeat.

Something that has been clear in Bury’s three-game winning run is that they have respected the opposition.

You have to do that in League One or you will very quickly come a cropper.

The Shakers could easily have lost on Saturday, and if you lose that respect for the league then it will come back to bite you.

But the attitude of the Bury players was spot on and as long as they maintain that then I think they will continue to surprise a few people.
