BURY boss David Flitcroft wants the football world to take a united stance against the terrorist threat following the deadly attacks in Paris on Friday night.

The Bolton-based manager said people must carry on their lives as normal, including continuing to attend football matches.

Suicide bombers targeted the France v Germany match at the Stade de France last weekend before gunmen carried out a series of barbaric attacks on restaurants, bars and a concert hall in the French capital.

“Disgusting scenes, scenes that you don’t want to see but unfortunately it’s the modern world and the modern war,” said Flitcroft.

“It’s a coward’s war and that’s how they fight.

“We are living in a world where you aren’t safe anymore.

“When you go to a football match, go to a concert or a restaurant you want to enjoy that time with your family and loved ones.

“When something like that happens, how can you protect it? You can’t.

“If someone is prepared to give their own life for a cause then that’s a dangerous person.

“You are not going to protect it, but what we can’t do is not go to these places anymore because we have got to keep on living.

“That’s what these people want. They want us to hide under a rock.

“It’s really important that as a community we stick together because when you see scenes like that you realise that we must try even harder to protect a way of life we hold dear, a way of life people have fought for.

“As I said, as a group we cannot afford to hide under a rock.”
