BURY have completed the loan signing of Manchester City goalkeeper Ian Lawlor until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old is not cup tied and has been granted permission to play in this weekend's FA Cup clash with Bradford.

Lawlor has spent the last month on loan at League Two side Barnet, where he made five appearances, keeping one clean sheet.

The Dublin-born keeper was part of the Manchester City first-team squad that toured Austria in pre-season, but has been mainly part of their under-21s development squad since arriving from his local side Home Farm FC.

Manager David Flitcroft said: “We have monitored Ian’s progress since he signed for Manchester City and have been impressed with his form in development games and respective loans.

“We are delighted to secure Ian to the end of the season and he will add great competition with Rob Lainton for the number one jersey.”

Lainton, aged 26, has been out since picking up a groin injury in a 2-1 defeat at cup opponents Bradford in League One in October.

He is understood to be nearing a return, but is not expected to be fully fit for another couple of weeks.

Stoke City keeper Daniel Bachmann remains on loan at Bury, but his deal expires at midnight on Saturday, with the third-round tie against the Bantams expected to be his last appearance for the club.
