BURY have sent young midfielder Scott Burgess on loan to Norwegian club Bergsoy IL until July.

Although the 18-year-old former youth team player has been a regular on the Shakers’ bench since Christmas, he has struggled for game time, with the last of his five appearances this season coming against Peterborough on March 1.

Bergsoy play in the fourth tier of Norwegian football and with their season starting later this month, manager David Flitcroft has agreed to let Burgess boost his development overseas before rejoining the Shakers for pre-season training in July.

Norway’s fourth tier is broken into 12 regional groups consisting of 12 or 14 teams, and Burgess will have Sunderland youngster Jordan Blinco for company as he has agreed a similar deal with Bergsoy.

“We haven’t got an under-21s team and we haven’t had as many games behind closed doors recently because of the injuries we’ve had, so Burgess has really fell in between a rock and a hard place,” Flitcroft explained.

“At times we’ve wanted to get him on, but because of our poor away form we’ve not felt we could do that and then at home we’ve found decent form, so he’s not playing enough game time.

“When I put it to him, he was so excited to go over, which was big.

“There’s a couple of young guys over there from England and they want technical players, which is what Scott is, so he’ll be ready and raring to go for next season.”
