BURY boss David Flitcroft is playing a waiting game as he bids to attract some of the Premier League's top young talent to Gigg Lane on loan.

The Shakers manager admitted after Wednesday's night's EFL Cup defeat at Burton Albion, which cost them a home tie against Liverpool in the next round, that he plans to bolster his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Changes to the loan market means lower league clubs are no longer allowed to make temporary signings outside the window, so Flitcroft knows all his signings must be completed by August 31.

But he says the Premier League's big clubs will not release their fringe players until they have concluded their own transfer business.

“I think we need a couple, I think we're just light,” Flitcroft said, after handing 16-year-old academy defender Jacob Bedeau a place on the bench at Burton.

“We have had some positive phone calls from the Premiership clubs and you can see it all moving.

“Everton are going to sign three or four players, Manchester United have done it, Man City are doing it.

“I think that movement is just shuffling things down again so we have had some quite positive phone calls that they might let them (youth players) out, the one's we have enquired about, but the deal's never done until the ink's dry.”

Flitcroft says there are no specific positions in the team he is looking to fill, but he is looking for players versatile enough to help out across the pitch.

He added: “If someone can come in and improve us and they're flexible or they're a multi-positional player, then we will look at every aspect.

"There's not one defined position we're after, but if the right players come along who can benefit the team we will certainly try and make those signings.”

Midfielder Andrew Tutte continues his recovery from a hamstring injury and will be unavailable for tomorrow's trip to Gillingham, while Flitcroft says summer signings Leon Barnett and Chris Brown are short of match fitness and are unlikely to feature.
