FORMER Premier League star Jermaine Pennant has joined Bury until the summer.

A player with Premier League, Europa League and Champions League experience who has commanded transfer fees of over £10m, 33-year-old Pennant has put pen to paper on a contract that runs to the end of the current season.

The Nottingham-born winger started his career at Notts County in 1998 where he quickly progressed to earn a £2m move to Arsenal in the January 1999 transfer window.

Following five years at the Gunners, in which he had loan spells at Watford, Leeds and Birmingham City, the last of which led to a permanent move in 2005, he was eventually signed by Liverpool for a fee reported to be £6.7m.

Pennant was also loaned to then top-flight side Portsmouth from Liverpool before a move to La Liga with Real Zaragoza.

Following a two-year spell in Spain, he returned to England with Stoke City.

Pennant, now aged 34, has also had spells at Wigan and Wolves and further stints abroad, in India and Singapore.

He has been training with Bury and has now signed a short-term contract at Gigg Lane.

The club are now waiting on international clearance before he is able to feature in Chris Brass' side.
