A HIGH-FIRING strikeforce is giving Bury boss Lee Clark plenty to ponder ahead of this weekend’s clash with Gillingham.

With five forwards battling for two spots the manager has a tough, yet welcome, call to make ahead of another relegation showdown.

George Miller netted a stoppage-time winner from the bench in Clark’s first game in charge at Chesterfield before Ryan Lowe hit the decisive goal against Charlton.

The boss chose James Vaughan and Tom Pope in Tuesday night’s win at home to Coventry and they both found the target. Hallam Hope is the final option, but he has often been forced into wider positions, given Vaughan and Pope’s excellent form that has seen the former net 19 goals in 28 starts.

“We have the options to change things and they’re all giving me everything as attackers,” Clark said.

“They’re getting on the scoresheet and making things difficult for us to pick a current pairing. Both goals were great moves and great finishes by two of our experienced players against Coventry. I had that in my mind picking the team at Charlton.

“They set off brilliantly, with and without the ball. It’s great because you have the opportunity to have Miller and Hope, Ryan (Lowe), who was unused.”

Bury are the third highest scorers in League One – behind only the top two, Sheffield United and Scunthorpe.

The Shakers fired themselves above the Gills in midweek and Clark is keen to carry the momentum into Saturday’s encounter.

He added: “When you have got momentum you don’t want that to be taken away so it’s same again Saturday, it will be very nice.

“We just want to keep winning the next games, that’s all we look to. We are not setting targets for anyone yet, we just want to make sure the next game we give ourselves a good chance of winning.”
