BURY manager Lee Clark says he is still in the market for more loan signings after Alex Whitmore joined from Burnley this week.

The 21-year old will stay at Gigg Lane until January to provide back-up for the injured Eoghan O’Connell, who is ruled out for 10 weeks.

Clark is now waiting for Premier League and Championship clubs to finalise their own squads so he can put the finishing touches to his side.

“We are still looking,” Clark told the Bury Times. “We are more than happy with the squad but obviously later in the window that’s when certain things do appear, especially from the Premier League and Championship clubs, they carry big squads.

“They make a decision and find someone might be surplus to requirements and they want to loan them out. If we feel they are going to make us stronger and make us better it will be in consideration.”

But first Bury are still trying to offload midfielder Neil Danns, who still has one year left on his Gigg Lane contract. League One rivals Blackpool have been keeping tabs on the 34-year-old after his successful loan spell at Bloomfield Road last season, but they have yet to table an offer.

Clark said: “We are still in the process of balancing these signings with players moving away.

“We have still got Neil who is available and hasn’t moved on. That would free up funds for us to move on and go elsewhere if we want to. Sometimes you want to have that. You are not always necessarily letting players go to bring others in straight away.

“You just want something in the background for an emergency in terms of your budget. With the window not shutting until three weeks after the season starts it gives us that possibility.”
