LEE Clark believes his decision to rest senior players for Tuesday night’s home hammering against Rochdale will be vindicated by their performance at Charlton.

The Shakers boss is confident his key men will be on top form in the capital this weekend after sitting out the club’s 4-0 defeat in the Checkatrade Trophy.

“I’m clear in my mind for the Valley, we are going to go there and win,” Clark said.

“I know that because I have got fresh players.

“I am not at all pleased Bury lost to Rochdale in a local derby.

“But I’m relaxed I have done the right thing to help us get the right result on Saturday.

“I’m clear in my mind in terms of what players we need and how we are going to do it to get our season up and running in terms of wins.

“I am very confident that the lads will deliver a performance and a result (on Saturday).”

Bury were missing top scorer Jermaine Beckford last weekend, when they stopped a run of defeats with a goalless draw at home Plymouth.

He also sat out the Rochdale loss but Clark is confident he will recover from a knee injury in time for Charlton.

However, Eoghan O’Connell, Andrew Tutte and Jay O’Shea will not resume training until next week, while long-term absentees Craig Jones (groin) and Danny Mayor (pelvic) are still some weeks behind.

“Jermaine will be back with us,” Clark explained.

“Jay and Eoghan will be doing some work with us next week, but they’ll need time with games.

“Craig has had a bit of a breather and he’s now doing his rehab without any pain, so he shouldn’t be too far away.

“Danny has had another injection so it could be another two to four weeks before we even see him out on the grass doing any type of rehab work.

“If he does come through that, you could be looking at six, eight or 10 weeks.”
