DOZENS of Bury fans were chanting for manager Lee Clark to be sacked after losing 1-0 at home to Doncaster.

The Shakers lost striker Jermaine Beckford to injury before centre-half Eoghan O'Connell was sent off in first-half stoppage time.

It looked like 10-man Bury might hang on for a much-needed point as they restricted Doncaster to few opportunities after the break.

But Rovers substitute Ben Whiteman struck on 78 minutes to condemn the Shakers to a fourth straight defeat.

Immediately after the goal, there were chants of "Clark out" and "you're getting sacked in the morning" from the home crowd – to their own manager – and that only intensified at the final whistle.

Victory would have seen the Shakers draw level with Donny in the League One table. Instead, defeat leaves them second-bottom.

Clark said: “I'm as frustrated as them so I've got no qualms with that, I fully understand. We've lost four on the bounce and I know the business I'm in.

“It's not a great run that we're on but I'm working hard every day. I believe I'm the right man to turn it around.

“I think the players are with us, they showed us that spirit with a man down.”

James Coppinger and Beckford fired narrowly wide at each end before the hosts had the better of a poor first half.

Chris Humphrey and Greg Leigh went close before Rovers keeper Ian Lawlor denied Rohan Ince and Beckford.

Donny were handed a boost as O'Connell was shown a straight red for bundling over John Marquis when the striker was clean through.

Tommy Rowe fired the free kick just wide before Rovers substitute Andy Williams had a goalbound effort blocked after the break.

Marquis then squared for Williams to somehow sidefoot wide from just four yards out.

But Coppinger's corner was then cleared to the edge of the Bury box, where Whiteman had time to take a touch before sidefooting home, edging Rovers up to 17th.
