NEW Shakers boss Chris Lucketti has been sent a good luck message from just down the road.

Bolton Wanderers chief Phil Parkinson – himself a former Gigg Lane favourite – reckons the 46-year-old is the right appointment to reignite Bury’s fortunes.

“Chris has got a lot of experience at this level of football, and he’s had a lot of success with Scunthorpe United, working with Graham Alexander,” he said.

“Obviously he’s got an affinity with Bury, having played there, so it looks like the right fit. It should give everyone a lift, and I wish him all the best with it.”

Parkinson has backed Bury to move away from the bottom reaches of League One but reckons Lucketti faces a tougher task in the longer term.

“I’m sure he’s going in there thinking ‘get safe first’ but the club has ambitions of getting into the Championship eventually, just as Scunthorpe have, so he’ll know what level of quality he needs in his squad,” he said.

“Bury have invested in some decent players over the last couple of years. Now it’s about trying to take them to the next level.”
