Bury boss looking for festive cheer

ALAN Knill has told his players to send the supporters into the Christmas break in good heart with victory over local rivals Macclesfield Town on Saturday.

Three points against the Silkmen could put Bury into the play-off places ahead of the festive period, and would be the perfect tonic for the manager after last weekend’s disappointing defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge.

“We were all disappointed after the Dagenham game,” said Knill.

“I was particularly disappointed with the manner of the goals that we conceded and we need to sort that out.

“We need to be better at stopping shots and crosses because we know we have goals in the team at the other end of the pitch.

“We need to bounce back quickly, just like we did against Barnet a fortnight ago after we had lost at Morecambe.”

Ryan Lowe will return to the starting line-up on Saturday after Daniel Nardiello was recalled by Blackpool on Monday.

Lowe, who has scored seven goals this season, will link-up with Andy Morrell because Andy Bishop and Danny Carlton remain sidelined.

“Daniel did a great job for us and we thought we had done a deal for him to stay with us,” said Knill.

“But Blackpool had some injuries and called him back. He is their player, so there is nothing we can do about it.

“He scored four goals in six games for us and he was brilliant. He did what we brought him in to do.

“It leaves us bare now and we have a lot of games coming up, so we will have to look after Andy and Ryan because Bishop is still two or three weeks away from a return and Carlton will be even longer.”

Macclesfield manager, and former Shakers director of football, Keith Alexander will welcome Sean Brisley back into his squad after suspension. Hamza Bencherif and Lee Bell remain on the sidelines while there are doubts over former Bury striker Matthew Tipton and Ricky Sappleton.
