STRIKERS Andy Bishop and Tom Elliott are set to give Alan Knill the perfect tonic heading into the new year.
Talismanic goal ace Bishop is hoping to make his comeback within the next fortnight, while Elliott will return on loan from Leeds United for the rest of the season on January 1 after fully recovering from a hamstring strain which cut short his previous stay at Gigg Lane in October.
Danny Carlton is not expected to be available until February at the earliest, but Bishop and Elliott will boost Knill’s options heading into the business end of the season.
“I’m delighted to have Tom back,” said Knill “We were all impressed with his attitude when he was with us earlier in the season and the plan was always for him to return.
“He gives us something different because of his pace and power and there is a lot there to work with.
“Andy is seeing a specialist today and we are hoping he will be given the all-clear to return to training and then we can ease him back.
“We hope to have them both in our squad for the Grimsby game on January 2 and it gives us more competition.”
Knill, who was disappointed to see the game with Macclesfield called off on Saturday, is hoping Gigg Lane thaws out in time for the Boxing Day visit of Bradford City.
“Bradford always bring lots of fans and it is always one of the biggest gates of the season on Boxing Day,” said the Bury boss.
“We have had some good games with them recently and they have a really good squad.
“We play Accrington on Monday and that will also be a tough game but we have got to play everybody at some point.
“I was disappointed when it was called off last weekend against Macclesfield because I don’t want the fixtures to back up.”
The big freeze has also wreaked havoc with Knill’s training schedule.
The Shakers’ training ground at Lower Gigg is out of use because of the weekend snow and the players have been restricted to indoor sessions in the early part of the week.
The club are monitoring the conditions at Gigg Lane ahead of the Bradford game.
