Bury suffered their first defeat of the season in the Lancashire Amateur League Premier Division as Failsworth made the most of their second-half superiority.

There was little to choose between the sides in the first period until a near post corner deflected off Chris Lloyd just before the interval to hand the visitors the lead.

Steven Wood almost levelled when his lob drifted wide but two quick strikes on the hour mark put the game beyond Bury’s reach and Failsworth wrapped up the game with a fourth goal.

The defeat came after Bury looked impressive in their first win of the season away to Rochdale St Clements.

Either side could have taken the lead before Clements did two minutes before half-time.

Bury deservedly equalised with seconds to go in the first half when Liam Donnelly coolly lobbed the onrushing keeper from 20 yards out.

Jordan Fitton’s superb 35-yard volley gave Bury the lead, although the keeper could have done better, and Lloyd secured the points when he smashed home from six yards out after Clements failed to clear.

Next up for the Old Boys is champions Prestwich at home this Wednesday, kick off 6.30pm.
