SPOT-on Bury GSOB put their poor run in the league behind them to claim a well-deserved victory against last year's league and cup double winners Old Boltonians in the Lancashire Cup on Saturday.

In a well-fought first half, Bury edged ahead just before half time.

Spencer Woods broke free after some good work down the right wing and kept his composure to slot in Mike Wilkinson, who drilled a low shot past the onrushing keeper.

Old Bolts came out stronger in the second period and created a number of half chances before equalising through Darren Dalton from just inside the box.

Bury remained resolute throughout and the game could have drifted either way with Old Bolt's Sean Rushton hitting the post and crossbar.

The match went straight to penalties and while the Old Boys scored all five of their spot kicks, Dalton fired the fifth and crucial shot over the crossbar for Old Bolts to send Bury GSOB through to the next round where they will play Walsden CC.
