RADCLIFFE Borough boss Kevin Glendon hopes midweek success in the FA Trophy can fire his team to break their duck when they return to league action on Saturday.

Boro put in an impressive display to beat Clitheroe 3-0 in their preliminary round replay at Stainton Park in what was just their second win of the campaign.

But both of those victories have come in cup competitions and Glendon knows it is vital they end their winless start in the league to avoid being cast adrift at the bottom.

The Stainton Park side have a good chance to do just that this weekend when they play twice in three days – a home clash with fellow strugglers Ossett Albion, who lost 7-0 in their last league outing at Darlington a week ago, followed by a trip to New Mills on Monday.

After nine games without a win, it would certainly be the perfect time to end their dismal run.

Glendon told the Radcliffe Times: “Maybe the confidence gained in Tuesday’s replay win against Clitheroe will help us.

“The lads worked really hard and I was pleased for them. It was just rewards for games we have let slip this season despite good performances.

“It gave the lads a nice feeling to be in a winning dressing room and that will spur them on.

“Saturday is an important game because a victory can take us off the bottom and above Ossett Albion.

“Then the next game comes quickly at New Mills so there are six points up for grabs.”

Despite just two points from home draws against Mossley and Ramsbottom United this season, Glendon has not been unhappy with the displays of his side, who go into the weekend three matches unbeaten.

One highlight has been the recent form of former England Under-19 forward and Manchester City youngster Brad Robinson.

The 20-year-old, who joined from Salford City in the summer, netted his first goal against Ramsbottom and made it two in consecutive home matches on Tuesday.

Glendon added: “Brad is a good young player who has got lots of ability and it is great to see him getting the goals his play deserves.

“It had been coming and hopefully now he can go on and keep scoring.”
