BORO are racing to bring in some defensive cover ahead of this weekend’s trip to Osset Town.

Kevin Glendon is hoping to call in some favours with his Football League contacts over the next few days after finding himself short across the back four in recent weeks.

The young Boro side chalked up a morale-boosting win over Clitheroe in the Doodson Cup in midweek with goals from Danny White, Bradley Robinson and Dave Sherlock, booking an away clash with Kendal Town in round two.

With Sam Grimshaw and Danny Lambert on the injured list, Glendon is working hard to add at least one more name to his squad as they head to Ingfield.

“I think we need to bring in a couple of players with Danny and Sam being out in the longer term,” he told The Radcliffe Times. “We’ll try to get someone in but otherwise go with what we have got at Osset. In some ways that suits us, in fact.

“We have been really successful bringing in Rich Wright from Fleetwood, who has been terrific, and I’d like to think we can bring someone else in of that ilk.”

Glendon may look to former non league counterparts Fleetwood for some help and is keen to look into forging loan links with a professional outfit.

“I think it’s something we have got to investigate,” he said. “It works for everyone because they send out young players who need some adult football and if they are successful then they take them back a better player.

“If we could tap into a Fleetwood or a Bury then it would be beneficial for both sides because I think we have got a good track record of developing players.”

Fleetwood are topping the League Two table at present and Glendon recalls the not-too-distant memories of beating the Cod Army on a regular basis.

“I think they have done terrifically, and Andy (Pilley) the chairman has done things exactly the right way,” he said. “He’ll probably be the first to tell you that we used to beat them regularly but I’ve got nothing but praise for what they are doing on and off the pitch.”

l JUST 15 tickets remain for Boro’s question-and-answer session with Everton and Manchester City legend Joe Royle.

The event will be held on Thursday, November 21, and tickets cost £7.50, which includes pie and peas.
