RADCLIFFE Borough got back to winning ways at the weekend after three consecutive defeats in the league.

Kevin Glendon’s men went to fellow Evo-Stik Division One North strugglers Ossett Town on Saturday in desperate need of three points after becoming detached from their relegation rivals.

But, despite only having an 82nd-minute Robert Peet own goal to thank for their 1-0 victory, the second-bottom side ensured that they closed the gap back up to Wakefield, who sit one place above the drop zone, to just one point.

It was always going to be a difficult trip to Yorkshire, against opposition who started the day seven points better off than Boro.

But the Stainton Park outfit battled hard on a terrible surface and were full value for their stroke of good luck, which allowed them to notch up only their second win on the road in the league this season.

Those three points helped move them within striking distance of their relegation rivals once more, and with games in hand they will hope to build on that result this weekend.

They face another tough trip on Saturday to seventh-placed Clitheroe, although Radcliffe will take heart from a recent 3-0 win at home to the Lancashire side in the Doodson Sport Cup.

Sadly for Boro, they could not translate that cup success into the Lancashire FA Trophy on Tuesday night.

Hampered by the fact that four of their players – Darren Thornton, Caldon Henson, Jake Gibbs and Kevin Sanasy – arrived half an hour late due to traffic, they still did well to hold out until the 83rd minute before finally going down 2-0 at Kendal Town.
