MANAGER Kevin Glendon says his Radcliffe Borough side need to forget last weekend’s disappointing display if they are to get anything against Evo-Stik Division One North leaders Warrington Town on Saturday.

Glendon admits last weekend’s 4-0 defeat at Clitheroe was a deserved defeat with his team not at the races against a side they beat 3-0 just 11 days earlier in the first round of the Doodson Sport League Cup.

But he wants it quickly erased from the memory banks ahead of Warrington’s visit to Stainton Park (3pm).

Glendon said: “Last weekend was probably the least effective we have been all season, possibly along with the Bamber Bridge game early on when we also lost 4-0 and didn’t turn up.

“We were really poor right through the team and just never got started. We were sluggish right from the first whistle.

“We still had a few chances but really we can have no complaints with the outcome because we were second best all match.

“In fact, if it hadn’t been for a fine display from Chris Cheetham in goal, it could have been a lot worse.

“It’s one to just forget quickly, throw away and move on and we need to show that against the league leaders.”

The visit of Warrington is the first of two big home tests for Glendon’s men in the space of four days.

After facing the Division One North table-toppers, there is an even tougher proposition in the League Cup second round on Tuesday when the side at Premier Division summit, Skelmersdale United, are the visitors.

After a recent run against their own division’s top three, games they lost, in successive matches, Glendon admits the fixtures have been unkind – particularly at a time when injuries have hit them hard.

Danny White, Chris Thompson, Danny Lambert and Sam Grimshaw all remain sidelined with physio Ronnie Evans not expecting any of the quartet back before Boxing Day at the earliest.

The squad is stretched to its limit and that has been compounded ahead of the Warrington game with the departure of Darren Thornton, to last weekend’s victors Clitheroe, and Caldon Henson.

Glendon said: “It is a tough time for us with lads out injured and longer term as well.

“We have lost Darren Thornton this week to Clitheroe after last weekend and Caldon has had trouble juggling his work commitments so he has also gone.

“We are looking to possibly bring in another loan youngster from Fleetwood in attack and hopefully something can happen there.

“Either way, it is not going to be easy against two league leaders – the fixtures have been unkind to us. We just get on with it and I know the lads will want to make up for last weekend. We lost 2-0 at Warrington recently but played quite well so, hopefully, we will see a good performance again on Saturday.”
